- Objective:
- Students will gain familiarity with some of the more common expectations of the Computer Science Discoveries course to better facilitate their success in the 2026-2027 School Year.
- 11:50-12:00: Start of Class
- Warm-Up: Find your assigned seat and log into the desktop computer.
- Mr. Smith can manage password concerns. DO NOT share passwords with other students!
- Warm-Ups are usually a 5 point Independent Work grade if a written response is expected, a 5 point Assessment grade if the Warm-Up is a quiz, or part of a 10 point Notebook Check if they include new vocabulary/code to enter into student notes. They are due at the start of class and not eligible for late submission or re-submission.
- Warm-Up: Find your assigned seat and log into the desktop computer.
- 12:00-12:55: Instruction & Student Work
- As the first day of class, we're primarily going over norms and expectations.
- Course Syllabus
- There's a lot in here, but as it's all 3 MS classes combined not all of it applies to CS Discoveries.
- Graded Work:
- Warm-Ups: These will usually either be vocabulary to write down in your notes or a quiz on said vocabulary. They are due during the 1st 10 minutes of class, do not delay in your arrival.
- All quizzes are open notes and graded as Assessments.
- Notes are checked once a week as Independent Work.
- Mr. Smith will lead you through the method for setting up your notes document so he'll be able to check them without you remembering to hand them in every week.
- Classwork: Assigned classwork will either be a worksheet (rarely) or completed code (much more common). Both are due by the end of class on the last A day of the week. Most assignments will be graded as Classwork, though the Mini-Projects and Project will be graded as Assessments.
- Worksheets will be handed in using a Google Form. Doing so locks the version handed in and timestamps it to show it was handed in on time. (Don't try to play the game of handing it in and then completing it later, this will not work.)
- Coding work will either be done editing HTML/CSS files on the lab computers (most common) or in Code.org (rarely).
- Warm-Ups: These will usually either be vocabulary to write down in your notes or a quiz on said vocabulary. They are due during the 1st 10 minutes of class, do not delay in your arrival.

- As the first day of class, we're primarily going over norms and expectations.
- 12:55-1:05: End of Class
- Save all work and back it up in Google Drive, as "I couldn't access my project" will not be seen as a valid excuse.
- If it's the last A Day of the week, submit the week's Classwork as an Exit Ticket.
- Properly shut down your assigned computer and line up, prepared to go to lunch.
- Exit Tickets are always 10 point Classwork grades and not eligible for late submission. Exit Tickets handed in on time are eligible for re-submission within 10 calendar days of feedback, with old and new grades averaged. (It is always better to hand in as much as possible on time, even if not complete.) Exit Tickets are due during the last 10 minutes of the last class of the week.
