2nd Grade, Manning, 04-21 – Code.org Lesson 3: Programming with Angry Birds

Our 1st Quarter will focus on media creation, while or 2nd Quarter will focus more on coding.

  1. Objective:
    1. Students will be able to:
      1. Identify and locate bugs in a program.
      2. Translate movements into a series of commands.
  1. Announcements:
    1. The last day for any late work for Q4 is Thursday, June 4th!
      1. This provides 2 weeks at the end of the Quarter for Mr. Smith to grade late work.
  2. Previous Lessons: Lesson 3, Lesson 4, Lesson 5, Lesson 6, Lesson 7, Lesson 8, Lesson 9
  3. Today's Lesson: Code.org Lesson 3: Programming with Angry Birds
    1. Vocabulary:
      1. Algorithm - A list of steps to finish a task.
      2. Bug - Part of a program that does not work correctly.
      3. Debugging - Finding and fixing problems in an algorithm or program.
      4. Sequencing - Putting commands in correct order so computers can read the commands.
    2. We will begin by using Clever to log into Code.org.
      1. Only Code.org logins done through Clever will show the work that has been assigned.
    3. The only lesson that should be visible is the one for today: Lesson 3: Programming with Angry Birds. It will have 11 Levels to complete.
      • Level 1 is a video that we will watch together in class.
      • Levels 2-7 are for skill building. Don't skip levels, each reinforces what came before!
      • Level 8 is a Challenge Level and is extra credit.
      • Levels 9 & 11 are Practice Levels to see what has been learned.
      • Level 10 is a Prediction Level to see what has been learned.
    4. Grading Rubric:
      1. Students earn 1 point for each level turned BRIGHT GREEN by completing it.
      2. Pale green Levels are incomplete and therefore not counted.
      3. CHALLENGE Levels are counted as Extra Credit.
      4. FREE PLAY Levels are rewards for completing the work and are not graded.
    5. This is an IN-CLASS assignment, NOT HOMEWORK. While late work will be accepted up until June 4th, it WILL be late!
