Technology Concepts, Q3, 01-31-2025

THIS VIDEO EXPLAINS TODAY'S EXPECTATIONS!

  1. Objective:
    1. Students will complete recording their first project to better understand digital citizenship.
  2. Warm-Up:
    1. 2025-01-29 Warm-Up: Quiz: Talent & Crew 1
      1. 6th Grade
      2. 7th & 8th Grade
      3. Grading Rubric:
        2 pts Vocabulary defined.
        3 pts Proofread your work.
        • Talent (Note: There are different definitions for "Talent." In this case, I'm looking for the one that describes a group of people working on a video production.)
        • Crew (Note: There are different definitions for "Crew." In this case, I'm looking for the one that describes a group of people working on a video production.)
      4. Warm-Ups are usually a 5 point Independent Work grade if a written response is expected, or a 5 point Assessment grade if the Warm-Up is a quiz. They are due at the start of class and not eligible for late submission or re-submission.
  3. Announcements
    1. February 14th is now a school day to make up for a previous Snow Day! This has affected the A/B Day Schedule for the rest of the year!
    2. Monthly Media Arts Incentive:
      1. "Arcade Day" at the end of the month.
        1. February's Arcade Day is scheduled for 02/27/2025.
      2. Students remain eligible unless a Notice of Concern has been earned that month for grades or behavior, though a student who missed out from low grades can earn back their Arcade Day privileges if they bring their grade back up.
        1. Check SchoolMax - if your avg is 70% or above, you're probably eligible.
    3. WeVideo
      1. Most of you already know the basics of using WeVideo to edit video and audio. To make sure your "Pro" account is enabled this year, use one of the links below.
        1. 6th Grade
        2. 7th & 8th Grade
      2. If buttons asking you to upgrade go away, the provided code worked. For some students this has taken more than one attempt. Ask for help if needed.
  4. Previous Lessons

    1. Project 1: 1/27, 1/29
  5. Project 1, Due 02-04
    1. You should be working on one of the 4 projects below :
      1. Digital Citizenship 1: Netiquette
      2. Digital Citizenship 2: Fact Checking
      3. Copyright and Creative Commons
      4. Digital Citizenship 4: Interland Review
      5. Media Arts majors who are taking this course must hand in a NEW Core project, not one they handed in for Media Arts.
    2. Mr. Smith will introduce software and techniques over the next few days to help students do their best on this and other projects.
    3. Complete Pre-Production By 01-29!
    4. Complete Production By 01-31!
      1. This step should take the least amount of time. Most of your work for most projects should be pre- or post-production.
    5. Complete And Hand In Post-Production By 02-04!
      1. This is when you hand in your work, not when you start your post-production.
      2. Students who wait until the day a project is due tend to run into last minute problems that can't be fixed in a day.
      3. When in doubt, export what you have and hand it in. An unfinished but viewable project will always earn more points than an unviewable or late project!
      4. Projects are 100 point Classwork grades, and are not eligible for late submission.
        1. Projects are eligible for re-submission, but only once and with a limited window. These details are covered in the syllabus and will be reviewed in more detail after Critique Day.
    6. "Put Out Fires" Day is 02-06!
      1. Ideally this is a day to begin work on Project 2. It is built in as a day to deal with emergencies that happened while working on Project 1.
      2. If you are beginning Project 1 today, you are going to have a rushed, incomplete project.
    7. Critique Day: 02-10!
      1. The work that's handed in will be shown to the rest of the class, and students will be asked to critique the work of their peers.
      2. Every student will be expected to critique a minimum of ten (10) student-submitted projects, with additional critiques scored as extra credit.
        1. Each critique can earn up to three (3) points.
          1. One point for meaningful positive feedback.
          2. One point for actionable constructive feedback.
          3. One point for the feedback being specific to the project being critiqued. ("Good job!" is not specific feedback!)
      3. Critiques are a 30 point Assessment grade and are not eligible for re-submission or late submission.
    8. Project 2: Student Choice, Due 02-19
      1. 02-12: Pre-Production
      2. 02-14: Production (Inclement Weather Make-Up Day)
      3. 02-19: Post-Production (Drama field trip?)
      4. 02-25: (Possible All Major Day)
      5. 02-27: "Put Out Fires" Day, Arcade Day, Performance Schedule
      6. 03-03: Critique Day
    9. Project 3: Student Choice, Due 03-11
      1. 03-05: Pre-Production
      2. 03-07: Production
      3. 03-11: Post-Production
      4. 03-13: "Put Out Fires" Day
      5. 03-18: Critique Day
    10. Project 4: Student Choice, Due 03-26
      1. 03-20: Pre-Production
      2. 03-24: Production
      3. 03-26: Post-Production
      4. 03-28: "Put Out Fires" Day, Arcade Day
      5. 04-03: Critique Day Last Day of Q3!
  6. Week 1 Exit Ticket
    1. 6th Grade
    2. 7th & 8th Grade
    3. Every Exit Ticket will be due during the last 10 minutes of the last B Day of the week. It will ask the same two questions:
      1. What did you accomplish in Media Arts (Technology Concepts) this week?
      2. What did you learn in Media Arts (Technology Concepts) this week?
    4. Exit Tickets will almost always be submitted through Canvas.
    5. Students are expected to have meaningful answers for both questions. An answer of "I didn't learn anything" might be honest, but it implies that off-task behavior took place.
    6. Proofreading answers is an important part of any written assignment, and grades will reflect a failure to do so.
    7. Exit Tickets are always 10 point Classwork grades and not eligible for late submission or re-submission. They are due during the last 10 minutes of the last class of the week.
