Technology Concepts, Q4, 04-09-2024

THIS VIDEO EXPLAINS TODAY'S EXPECTATIONS! (137 days until the 1st day of next school year!)

Today's to-do list includes the following items:

  1. Warm-Up:
    1. 2024-04-09 Warm-Up Quiz: Stages of Production Vocabulary
      1. Warm-Ups are usually a 5 point Independent Work grade if a written response is expected, or a 5 point Assessment grade if the Warm-Up is a quiz. They are due at the start of class and not eligible for late submission or re-submission.
  2. Monthly Incentives
    1. Monthly Media Arts Incentive:
      1. "Arcade Day" at the end of the month.
        1. April's Arcade Day is scheduled for 04/30/2024.
      2. Students remain eligible unless a Notice of Concern has been earned that month for grades or behavior, though a student who missed out from low grades can earn back their Arcade Day privileges if they bring their grade back up.
        1. Check SchoolMax - if your avg is 70% or above, you're probably eligible.
  3. Syllabus
    1. The class syllabus will always be linked at the top of these daily announcements.
  4. WeVideo
    1. While most projects in this course do not depend on a specific app, WeVideo is a web based program that is useful for recording/editing video and audio on student ChromeBooks.
    2. This is a "freemium" app, requiring a subscription to unlock its most useful features. Fortunately, PGCPS has paid the subscription fee for you! Use this link to set up your account for this year!
    3. WeVideo is not the only recording software you are allowed to use, but it is the most "feature rich" software we have that will work on school ChromeBooks.
      1. Alternate tools include 123Apps.com and even Canvas' Studio.
  5. Q4 Project 1, Due 04-12
    1. Everyone's Project 1 for this Quarter must be one of the "Core" projects in the top left section. For your convenience, direct links are shared below:
      1. Digital Citizenship 1: Netiquette
      2. Digital Citizenship 2: Fact Checking
      3. Copyright and Creative Commons
      4. Digital Citizenship 4: Interland Review
      5. Media Arts majors who are taking this course must hand in a NEW Core project, not one they handed in for Media Arts.
    2. Complete Pre-Production By 04-03!
    3. Complete Production By 04-05!
    4. Complete And Hand In Post-Production By 04-09!
      1. This is when you hand in your work, not when you start your post-production.
      2. Students who wait until the day a project is due tend to run into last minute problems that can't be fixed in a day.
      3. When in doubt, export what you have and hand it in. An unfinished but viewable project will always earn more points than an unviewable or late project!
      4. Projects are 100 point Classwork grades, and are not eligible for late submission.
        1. Projects are eligible for re-submission, but only once and with a limited window. These details are covered in the syllabus and will be reviewed in more detail after Critique Day.
    5. "Put Out Fires" Day is 04-12!
      1. Ideally this is a day to begin work on Project 2. It is built in as a day to deal with emergencies that happened while working on Project 1.
      2. If you are beginning Project 1 today, you are going to have a rushed, incomplete project.
    6. Critique Day: 04-16!
      1. The work that's handed in will be shown to the rest of the class, and students will be asked to critique the work of their peers.
      2. Every student will be expected to critique a minimum of ten (10) student-submitted projects, with additional critiques scored as extra credit.
        1. Each critique can earn up to three (3) points.
          1. One point for meaningful positive feedback.
          2. One point for actionable constructive feedback.
          3. One point for the feedback being specific to the project being critiqued. ("Good job!" is not specific feedback!)
      3. Critiques are a 30 point Assessment grade and are not eligible for re-submission or late submission.
    7. Q4 Project 2: Student Choice, Due 04-26
      1. 04-18: Pre-Production (Assume no ChromeBook access due to testing!)
      2. 04-22: Production (Assume no ChromeBook access due to testing!)

      7. 05-21: Critique Day
    9. Q4 Project 4: Student Choice, Due 05-31
      1. 05-23: Pre-Production
      2. 05-28: Production
      3. 05-30: Post-Production & Arcade Day
      4. 06-03: Critique Day
  6. Exit Ticket
    1. 2024-04-08 to 04-12 Exit Ticket
      1. 4 pts Proofread your work.
3 pts What did you accomplish in Media Arts (Tech Concepts) this week?
3 pts What did you learn in Media Arts (Tech Concepts) this week?
      2. NOTE: If you do not describe WHAT you did while working on your project, saying you worked on it is not enough information to earn credit.
    2. Exit Tickets are always 10 point Classwork grades and not eligible for late submission or re-submission. They are due during the last 10 minutes of the last class of the week.
