Media Arts Majors, 10-23-2023

THIS VIDEO GOES OVER TODAY'S EXPECTATIONS!

  1. Warm-Up:
    1. Complete this quiz in Canvas.
    2. Warm-Ups are usually a 5 point Independent Work grade if a written response is expected, or a 5 point Assessment grade if the Warm-Up is a quiz. They are due at the start of class and not eligible for late submission or resubmission.
  2. Monthly Incentives
    1. Monthly Media Arts Incentive:
      1. "Arcade Day" at the end of the month.
        1. October's Arcade Day is scheduled for 10/31/2023.
      2. Students remain eligible unless a Notice of Concern has been earned that month for grades or behavior, though a student who missed out from low grades can earn back their Arcade Day privileges if they bring their grade back up.
        1. Check SchoolMax - if your avg is 70% or above, you're probably eligible.
  3. Q1 Project 4
    1. Due 10-20
      1. 10-12: Pre-Production
      2. 10-16: Production
      3. 10-18: Post-Production
      4. 10-19 (All Majors Day): "Put Out Fires" Day, &/or "Pre-Critique Critique Day"
      5. 10-23: Critique Day
  4. Q2 Project 1
    1. Due 11/17
    2. Festival Entry 1: Pre-Production
      1. The PGCPS Film Festival is our annual COUNTY-WIDE BIG EVENT. Skipping out on any part of this will do bad things for your grades. (Plural. Multiple grades.)
      2. The Technical Assessment (Your Final Exam) has a significant portion dedicated to what you did for this year's Film Festival. Not the Festival in general, but YOUR specific entry.
      3. I was informed on Wednesday, 10/18 that there will once again be a per-school cap on the number of entries that can be submitted to the County level. It is your duty and responsibility to create something better than the 5th grade animations I have ready to submit.
    3. Projects are 100 point Classwork grades, and are not eligible for late submission.
    4. Feedback from the critiques is provided in the Canvas assignment linked above.
    5. Projects are eligible for resubmission, but only once. They must be resubmitted using the same form as before, and no later than 10 days after feedback has been shared with them in Canvas.
      1. Film Fest Addendum: Because Entry 1 is needed to complete Entry 2, and Entry 2 is needed to complete Entry 3, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you QUICKLY make any suggested revisions and hand them in before starting the next project. To do otherwise will waste your time, lower your grades, and, worst of all, lower the quality of your final project.
    6. Deadlines for future projects are not adjusted. Students are encouraged to not put off starting Project 2 because they've decided to work on redoing Project 3 from scratch.
  5. Exit Ticket
    1. No Exit Tickets on Critique Days.
    2. Exit Tickets are always 10 point Classwork grades and not eligible for late submission or resubmission. They are due during the last 10 minutes of class.
