Today's to-do list includes the following items:<\/span><\/p>\n

    1. 2023-11-03 Warm-Up: Why Are You Here?<\/a>\n
        \n
      1. Grading Rubric:
        \n\n\n\n\n
        2 pts<\/td>\nTake a moment to use your best grammar and spelling.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
        3 pts<\/td>\nAnswer the following questions:
        \n\"Why did you pick your major?\"
        \n\"What do you want to accomplish in Technology Concepts?\"<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/li>\n
      2. Warm-Ups are usually a 5 point Independent Work grade if a written response is expected, or a 5 point Assessment grade if the Warm-Up is a quiz. They are due at the start of class and not eligible for late submission or resubmission.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
      3. Monthly Incentives<\/strong>\n

        1. Monthly Media Arts Incentive:<\/strong>\n
            \n
          1. \"Arcade Day\" at the end of the month.\n
              \n
            1. November's Arcade Day is scheduled for 11\/29\/2023.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
            2. Students remain eligible unless a Notice of Concern has been earned that month for grades or behavior, though a student who missed out from low grades can earn back their Arcade Day privileges if they bring their grade back up.\n

              1. Check SchoolMax - if your avg is 70% or above, you're probably eligible.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
              2. Syllabus<\/strong>\n
                  \n
                1. You will be held accountable for your behavior and your work (or lack thereof).<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
                2. Q2 Project 1<\/strong>\n
                    \n
                  1. There will be four (4) projects due this Quarter, spaced roughly 2 weeks apart.\n
                      \n
                    1. [It was found that while three (3) projects gave more time, a low grade on one project wrecked the average for the Quarter.]<\/li>\n
                    2. [It was also found that while five (5) projects made certain that no one project could ruin an average, there was little time to get anything done.]<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
                    3. While students in this class will usually get to choose which projects they want to do<\/a>, there are some non-negotiable activities mandated by PGCPS.<\/li>\n
                    4. Everyone's Project 1 for this Quarter must be one of the \"Core\" projects in the top left section.\n
                        \n
                      1. Ignore the Film Festival projects, but any other Core project on the list is fair game.<\/li>\n
                      2. Media Arts majors who are taking this course must hand in a NEW Core project, not one they handed in for Media Arts.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
                      3. Mr. Smith will introduce software and techniques over the next few days to help students do their best on this and other projects.<\/li>\n
                      4. Complete Pre-Production By 11-07!<\/strong>\n
                          \n
                        1. \"Those who fail to plan plan to fail.\"<\/li>\n
                        2. Planning out and prepping for the production phase makes everything else easier.<\/li>\n
                        3. For a beginning digital artist, every 1 minute of pre-production can easily save 5 minutes of post-production, if not more. Being lazy on this step requires more work later. Who wants to do more work?\n
                            \n
                          1. (While more experience can always bring that ratio down, it never<\/em> reaches 1:1.)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
                          2. Complete Production By 11-09!<\/strong>\n
                              \n
                            1. This step should take the least amount of time. Most of your work for most projects should be pre- or post-production.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
                            2. Complete And Hand In Post-Production By 11-14!<\/strong>\n
                                \n
                              1. This is when you hand in your work, not when you start your post-production.<\/li>\n
                              2. Students who wait until the day a project is due tend to run into last minute problems that can't be fixed in a day.<\/li>\n
                              3. When in doubt, export what you have and hand it in. An unfinished but viewable project will always earn more points than an unviewable or late project!<\/em><\/li>\n
                              4. Projects are 100 point Classwork grades, and are not eligible for late submission.<\/em>\n
                                  \n
                                1. Projects are<\/strong> eligible for resubmission, but only once and with a limited window. These details are covered in the syllabus<\/a> and will be reviewed in more detail after Critique Day.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
                                2. \"Put Out Fires\" Day is 11-16<\/strong>\n
                                    \n
                                  1. Ideally this is a day to begin work on Project 2. It is built in as a day to deal with emergencies that happened while working on Project 1.<\/li>\n
                                  2. If you are beginning Project 1 today, you are going to have a rushed, incomplete project.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
                                  3. Critique Day: 11-20<\/strong>\n
                                      \n
                                    1. The work that's handed in will be shown to the rest of the class, and students will be asked to critique the work of their peers.<\/li>\n
                                    2. Every student will be expected to critique a minimum of ten (10) student-submitted projects, with additional critiques scored as extra credit.\n
                                        \n
                                      1. Each critique can earn up to three (3) points.\n
                                          \n
                                        1. One point for meaningful positive feedback<\/em>.<\/li>\n
                                        2. One point for actionable constructive feedback<\/em>.<\/li>\n
                                        3. One point for the feedback being specific to the project<\/em> being critiqued. (\"Good job!\" is not specific feedback!)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
                                        4. Critiques are a 30 point Assessment grade and are not eligible for resubmission or late submission.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
                                        5. Q2 Project 2<\/strong>\n
                                            \n
                                          1. Due 12-08<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
                                          2. Q2 Project 3<\/strong>\n
                                              \n
                                            1. Due 12-22<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
                                            2. Q2 Project 4<\/strong>\n
                                                \n
                                              1. Due 01-12<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
                                              2. Exit Ticket<\/strong><\/span>\n

                                                1. Every Exit Ticket will ask the same two questions:\n
                                                    \n
                                                  1. What did you accomplish in Media Arts today?<\/em><\/li>\n
                                                  2. What did you learn in Media Arts today?<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
                                                  3. Exit Tickets will usually be submitted through Canvas, but as today's an Asynchronous 1\/2 day, an Exit Ticket will not be assigned.<\/li>\n
                                                  4. Students are expected to have meaningful answers for both questions. An answer of \"I didn't learn anything\" might be honest, but it implies that off-task behavior took place.<\/li>\n
                                                  5. Proofreading answers is an important part of any written assignment, and grades will reflect a failure to do so.<\/li>\n
                                                  6. Exit Tickets are always 10 point Classwork grades and not eligible for late submission or resubmission. They are due during the last 10 minutes of class.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
