February Theme: Emotions in Portraits- February’s theme focuses on emotion and expression in portrait photography. A strong portrait goes beyond showing what someone looks like—it reveals how they feel. This month, students are challenged to capture mood, personality, and emotion through facial expression, body language, lighting, and composition. Portrait subjects can include friends, family members, self-portraits, or even staged portraits that tell an emotional story.
- Tips to try this month
- Pay attention to eyes and body language—small details often communicate big emotions.
- Use natural window light for soft, expressive portraits, or dramatic side lighting for mood.
- Try a simple background so emotion stays the focus.
- Experiment with black & white to emphasize feeling over color.
- Capture candid moments, not just posed smiles.
- Resources
- Students may submit 1–2 photos to https://bit.ly/PGCPS
DPC highlighting emotions in portraits by the end of the month; standout work will be featured on Instagram @pgcpsmediaarts and Gallery.
