Our 1st semester will focus on media creation, while or 2nd semester will focus more on coding.

Regardless of the lesson, FouloisTech.info should be your destination every time you come into class. This space will be used to provide announcements, lessons, and other resources.

  1. Objective:

      • Explain constraints of translating problems from human language to machine language
      • Reframe a sequence of steps as an encoded program
      • Try out various roles to collaborate with peers on an algorithm.

      1. All work not completed by then will remain a zero.
      2. Any work assigned after then is due the same day.
  3. Today's Lesson: Code.org Lesson 2: Graph Paper Programming
    1. Vocabulary:
      1. Algorithm - A list of steps to finish a task.
      2. Collaborate - Work together on an activity
      3. Program - An algorithm that has been coded into something that can be run by a machine.
    2. Today we're going to review skills that you may have learned in 2nd grade, but we'll start off with a video or two:
      1. Asimo by Honda (3:58)
      2. Egg Drawing Robot (3:15)
      3. Dancing Lego Robot (1:35)
    3. Each of these videos shows a robot following directions. Robots are controlled by computers, which can only do exactly what they're told. When the instructions aren't clear, things usually go wrong.
    4. Today, we're going to take turns being programmers and computers.
      1. We'll be using this worksheet. One side is a game for you to play with a partner. The other is for assessing what you've learned.
      2. Other than your name, you'll be using the following symbols to give directions to the "computer."
      4. We'll begin on the side with two puzzles. Select an image and try using the symbols above to give directions on how to recreate it in the boxes provided.
      5. Trade papers with someone nearby and have them try to follow your directions while you follow theirs.
      6. Did it work? If not, what went wrong?
      7. Try again with the 2nd puzzle and a different image.
      8. On the other side of the paper, you have several puzzles to complete by yourself. Finish all of them before class ends.
  4. This is an IN-CLASS assignment, NOT HOMEWORK. Please stay on task to complete this work by the end of class!
