Session 8 Recap

Characters:

  • Xytar, the Risk-Taking Dragon Warrior Who Looks for Trouble
  • Hyoto, the Charming Chimera Hermit Crab Explorer who Talks to Machines
  • Finthetic Eian, the Artificial Intelligence Empathetic Adept who Looks for Trouble
  • Uravity the Creative Felis Adept who Travels Through Time

Plot:

The party broke through the door to the Crab Matriarch's lair. There was an epic battle that required teamwork and dealing with GM Intrusions, but the Matriarch was defeated, the eggs were smashed, and the rat people on the main deck no longer need to live in fear of giant crabs.

All things considered, a wonderful way to run the last session before Winter Break.

Session 9 - Cypher System

Character Options

Some players may choose to spend 4 XP to increase certain character abilities before we get into the plot.

Gameplay

The rat folk are grateful for what the characters have done and are willing to share some gear with them. That's right, this is a shopping episode!

After that, decisions will need to be made concerning where to go next.

I'd also like to spend some time discussing NPC creation. Most NPCs in Cypher System are made very simply: They have a level from 1 to 10. Rolls to hit them or succeed against them are made at that difficulty level, unless exceptions are made. Their hit points are 3 times their level, and their damage is equal to their level.

It can be bland to have everyone the same level have the same stats, so exceptions can be added in to spice things up. A generic Level 1 NPC could look like this. Note that this character is best to not use in normal (or any) combat. Not every NPC needs to be an enemy.

Associate Professor, Level 1(3)
Motive: Teach students, earn tenure.
Environment: Local university.
Health: 3
Damage Inflicted: 1 point, 2 points if Intellect damage.
Movement: Short
Modifications: Tasks related to perception and academia are as level 3.
Combat: Associate Professors prefer not to fight physically, and will run from violence. They thrive on verbal debates and will gather around such occurrences to add to the discussion.
Interaction: Associate Professors are good sources of information regarding their chosen subject area, the layout of the university, how to enroll in classes, and where the best coffee shops are located.
Use: When an info-dump is needed about a topic.
Loot: Associate Professors are usually quite broke, but may have 2-3 textbooks on them that could be exchanged for cash at the college book store.

With this information, think about the current setting and create a creature you might encounter on this world.

What happens next is up to the players.
