Media Arts Majors, 04-13-2026 – Q3MP3

This video is the tutorial for today's lesson, though it does not go over any announcements.

  1. Objective:
    1. Students will create a reusable background image suitable for multiple platforms.
  2. Warm-Up: 2026-04-13: Prop List
    1. Imagine you're making a background to put behind you in OBS, Zoom, or Google Meet. It should look like an idealized room that you'd be using for streaming (Example: An office or game room). What objects and/or furniture would we see? (Examples: Desk, chair, computer...)
    2. If you finish your list fast enough, look for examples you can grab from OpenClipArt.org.
    3. This is an important part of today's Mini-Project, don't skip it.
    4. Warm-Ups are usually a 5 point Independent Work grade if a written response is expected, or a 5 point Assessment grade if the Warm-Up is a quiz. They are due at the start of class and not eligible for late submission or re-submission.
  3. Announcements:
    1. BACK UP ALL WORK YOU VALUE TO GOOGLE DRIVE!
      1. Not ensuring you have access to your work outside of this room us a recipe for disaster.
    2. April's Arcade Day may be on 04/29, assuming behavior improves.
      1. You still need an average of 70% or higher to participate.
    3. FILM FESTIVAL PEOPLE'S CHOICE AWARDS
      1. Vote for your favorites! (Voting closes on April 17th.)
      2. EVERYONE may vote once per category per email.
        1. Yes, EVERYONE. Share this link with friends and family.
        2. (Previous years allowed daily votes. That is not allowed this year.)
      3. We have entries in the Narrative, Animation, and We The People categories.

      2. Rubric (25% each):
        1. File Type: Work is handed in as an SVG file.
        2. Dimensions: Work is scaled to be 1280x720 (16:9)
        3. Venue: Work shows a "room" that would make sense as a streaming background.
        4. Originality: While the expectation is that the work is made from public domain source SVG files, their arrangement and possible recoloring should be unique to the student handing it in.
