Hello BDF family! Sorry for the delay in posting, here's what our plan as a class are going forward with our remaining time this quarter. All students have been informed last week of the following:
- Any work due before the winter break is no longer available for make-up. Reason: we've been working on one project (Amplify Awards aka 1 of our midterms) since the middle of November, and extra time was expressed to be used during the 2 week break if necessary. It's normally a 2 week project, and I gave 6 (8 if you include the winter break extension). Only 10 out of 21 students turned something in despite my warning of the consequences of not turning in anything.
- For this month of January, we are focusing on 2 projects. The first is the Film Festival which is our second midterm project (and has been fully planned out since November as well) where I want them to turn in a finished video by the 25th of January (which is a Sunday so that I can put the grades in for it Monday after school and meet the grade deadline on time). Most have started recording last week, and by the end of this week I expect every student to have some footage recorded for their video. They've also been told to consider this a rough cut as they will have more time in the 3rd quarter to fine tune the video for a final cut (I want these high quality and high effort). This project is the most important one to focus on for the remainder of the quarter.
- The second project is the Darnall's Chance Museum project where we were once again asked by the Historians from Darnall's Chance Museum to have our awesome students create short videos both promoting the 250th Anniversary of America as an established country as well as getting more people to come out to the various museum locations located throughout the county. The Historians were awesome enough to visit our class on Jan 7th to both offer a detailed presentation about what they're looking for as clients, and even give students chances to ask them questions. I both recorded that meeting for those that weren't in class, as well as gave everyone access to their slideshow so that the information is readily available. This project won't be due until sometime after we have a field trip their with the camera crew from each group early/mid spring (meaning 3rd or 4th quarter), however I want them to have a fully fleshed out plan before that trip arrives. All groups have already have an idea of what they want to do based on the provided information, however we still need to improve and sharpen our plan as well as create a script and a shot list ( a list of things to record or take pictures of) for the trip. We will do these extra things in the 3rd quarter, however students have been encouraged to focus on this the moment all group members have finished their own individual film festival videos. Some have already started recording for it, which is awesome, however I fear their progress on the Film Festival midterm submission.
- This Thursday we have a show presented by our theater department for both during school and in the evening (starting at 7pm). I already have a few students who want to volunteer for the evening, however they have been informed to head home and come back to ensure they have permission (I don't want anyone staying and find out they don't have a ride home). They must wear all black to participate. I will be present at both shows to both monitor and help out with things in the production.
