Session 2 Recap
We agreed upon the plot of the characters getting shipwrecked on a distant world on the edge of known space. The planet had one (or more) powerful civilization that's now in ruins, with much of that knowledge lost to the survivors that call that world home. Most societies on the world now are at the level of technology found in fantasy genres, with "magic" involving technology most no longer understand.
For character creation, we've selected character names and created our sentences. Before the end of the session we entered most of our stats.
Session 3 - Cypher System
Character Creation
- Species & Type
- Both of these affect things about your character. I have handouts to give you that will speed that process along.
- Foci
- While you selected your foci last session ... I forgot what you picked. I'll look up and print out the info for each of your foci at the start of the session.
- Foci add an additional description and set of abilities to your character. These include the following:
- Absorbs Energy, Battles Robots, Builds Robots, Calculates the Incalculable, Commands Mental Powers, Conducts Weird Science, Dances With Dark Matter, Entertains, Fights With Panache, Focuses Mind Over Matter, Fuses Flesh and Steel, Fuses Mind and Machine, Hunts, Infiltrates, Interprets the Law, Is Idolized by Millions, Learns Quickly, Looks for Trouble, Loves The Void, Masters Defense, Masters Weaponry, Moves Like a Cat, Needs No Weapon, Never Says Die, Operates Undercover, Pilots Starcraft, Siphons Power, Solves Mysteries, Talks to Machines, Travels Through Time, Wears Power Armor, Works for a Living, Works the Back Alleys, Works the System, Would Rather Be Reading
- XP: While we did not get to play last session, I'm going to stick with the rules as written and award 2XP. You can spend these during the session or save them to spend 4XP to gain a lasting benefit.
- Why the characters are all working together.
- This is a big deal. If your character has no interest in a unifying goal, there's nothing to keep them with the group. We can run a group adventure, but 4 separate adventures will make everything take longer and be harder.
- Suggestions:
- Loot: You initially came to this world because of legends of a powerful artifact that you wish to retrieve. (Why?)
- Cure: There is a plague sweeping through known space, and archeologists think that a lost civilization on this world had a cure. (Does someone your character cares about have this illness? Does your character?)
- Membership: You represent a federation of star systems looking to bring more planets into the organization. (To stave off a galaxy-wide threat? For more noble reasons?) You've been tasked with getting the largest governments of this world to agree to join forces so that they can be welcomed into the larger collective. That the civilizations in your file are the ones now lost for generations is a significant setback, but you can work with this.
- Gameplay
- The plot will begin with your characters crash landing. You will have a minimum of supplies and have to survive the dangers of the wilderness by working together.
- Evidence of what was lost can be found everywhere, and some of it still seems to be useful. (Your character will get their first Cyphers today.)
