Media Arts Majors, 10-16-2024

  1. THIS VIDEO GOES OVER THE EXPECTATIONS FOR TODAY!
  2. Objective:
    1. Students will critique the work of their peers to broaden their understanding of the work that can be done in this program.
  3. Warm-Up:
    1. 2024-10-16 Warm-Up Quiz: 3-Point Lighting

      1. 6th Grade Warm-Up
      2. 7th & 8th Grade Warm-Up
    2. Warm-Ups are usually a 5 point Independent Work grade if a written response is expected, or a 5 point Assessment grade if the Warm-Up is a quiz. They are due at the start of class and not eligible for late submission or re-submission.
  4. Announcements

    1. Monday will be an All Major Day Schedule. (Mod 4 will be 60 min.)
    2. Tuesday will be a Performance Schedule. (Mod 4 will be 40 min.)
    3. Project Suggestions
      1. One of my goals for this year is to add a lot more projects for majors to select.
      2. My focus is on non-video projects, as most of the existing options are video, but I'm not ruling out video as a possibility.
      3. Is there something you want to do but can't find a project that fits that framework already? Use this form to suggest a project!
    4. Quality-of-Work Update
      1. The rubric is a MINIMUM expectation.
    5. Monthly Media Arts Incentive:
      1. "Arcade Day" at the end of the month.
        1. October's Arcade Day is scheduled for Thursday, October 31st. (The last day of Q1!)
      2. Students remain eligible unless a Notice of Concern has been earned that month for grades or behavior, though a student who missed out from low grades can earn back their Arcade Day privileges if they bring their grade back up.
        1. Check Canvas - if your avg is 70% or above, you're probably eligible.
      3. Ineligible students should be working on a project re-submission or their next project.
      4. Arcade Days do not change project deadlines! All work is still due!
    6. I have written a computer buying guide, because I am frequently asked about what's worth buying.
    7. The FILM FEST GUIDELINES have been released!
      1. This is an edited version of the official guidelines. Links to hand the videos in have been removed as only teachers are allowed to do that part.
    8. BDF is going to the Harvest Festival!
      1. BDF PTO invites our school family and friends out for a fun fall day of activities and fundraising at the MD CornMaze! Saturday, November 2nd. Tickets can be purchased in advance at https://mdcornmaze.com/collections/all-tickets-1 using code BFCPA24 or at the entrance showing the attached flyer so our school can receive 15% back! A prize will be given to the teacher whose class has the most tickets purchased to the maze.
    9. Promote the Vote!
      1. The BDF PTO is proud to present Promote the Vote. We encourage our families to exercise their right to civic engagement in the upcoming local, state and national elections. Show your pride in your action by sending in a selfie of your BDF Student with an "I Voted Sticker". The homeroom classes with the most sticker selfies (per grade level) will win a pizza party! Please use the QR code or link to submit your selfies.
  5. Q1 Project deadlines:
    1. Q1P4: Student Choice
      1. Wednesday, Oct 16, Critique Day
      2. 6th Grade
      3. 7th & 8th Grade
    2. Projects are 100 point Classwork grades, and are not eligible for late submission.
    3. Feedback from the critiques is provided in the Canvas assignment for that project.
    4. Projects are eligible for re-submission, but only once. They must be resubmitted using the same form as before, and no later than 10 days after feedback has been shared with them in Canvas. The 4th project of each Quarter is not eligible for re-submission due to its proximity to the end of the Quarter!
    5. Deadlines for future projects are not adjusted. Students are encouraged to not put off starting Project 4 because they've decided to work on redoing Project 3 from scratch.
  6. 10-14-2024 - 10-17-2024 Exit Ticket
    1. Exit Tickets "go live" at 2:35pm on the last A Day of the week (assuming a normal schedule) and should be completed within those 10 minutes.
      1. 6th Grade, hand in here.
      2. 7th-8th Grade, hand in here.
    2. 4 pts Proofread your work.
3 pts What did you accomplish in Media Arts this week?
3 pts What did you learn in Media Arts this week?
    3. NOTE: If you do not describe WHAT you did while working on your project, saying you worked on it is not enough information to earn credit.
    4. Exit Tickets are always 10 point Classwork grades and not eligible for late submission or re-submission. They are due during the last 10 minutes of the last class of the week.
