5th Grade, McCrae, 9-23

THIS VIDEO EXPLAINS THE EXPECTATIONS FOR THE DAY!

Our 1st semester will focus on media creation, while or 2nd semester will focus more on coding.

Regardless of the lesson, FouloisTech.info should be your destination every time you come into class. This space will be used to provide announcements, lessons, and other resources.

  1. Objective:
    1. Students will create a punny storyboard based on their script to prepare for their animation project.
  2. Announcements:
    1. Arts Assessments are December 2-December 6! These will determine your major for next year! Be ready!
    2. No late work for this Quarter will be accepted after Thursday, October 17th!
      1. This deadline is 2 weeks before the end of the Quarter. That time is needed to ensure all late work handed in before then is graded in a timely fashion.
    3. Audio 1Audio 2, Audio 3, Audio 4, and Audio 5 are past due!
    4. Video 1 is past due!
  3. Today's Lesson
    1. Video 2: Animation Storyboard
      1. Note: Animation is one of the categories in the annual PGCPS Student Film Festival! Recordings that are well done may be considered for entry into the contest!Grading Rubric:
4 Points Storyboard dialogue has very few spelling and/or grammatical errors and is in the SPEAKER NOTES section.
3 Points Storyboard has one animal tell an animal themed joke to another animal, and includes the other animal's reaction.
3 Points Storyboard has a title slide, credits slide, and slight differences in characters and camera angles to emphasize that they are two characters intended to be played by the same person.
        1. Today, Mr. Smith will show you how to use Google Slides to make a storyboard. (Here's the example I show in the video.)
        2. Follow Mr. Smith's directions to create a storyboard based on your script from Video 1.
          1.  Click the "Share" button in the top, right corner.
          2. Click the text at the bottom where it says "PGCPS" so that anyone with the link can view your storyboard.
          3. Click the "copy link" button.
          4. Go to Canvas and paste the link in the text box before handing it in.
        3. Now that you've handed in your link, we can get started on the work!
          1. You will want this folder of cartoon animals as well as this folder of backgrounds.
            1. Download the two animals you're using in your Video 1 script and a single background.
          2. Add a title slide that includes the name of your movie IN ALL CAPITAL LETTERS! (Movie titles are almost always in all caps.)
          3. Add a credits slide that includes YOUR NAME and the sentence "ART IS USED WITH PERMISSION FROM OPENCLIPART.ORG."
          4. Insert a slide between the title and credits, then add your background to it.
            1. The background might be too large for the slide. Mr. Smith will show you how to crop it.
          5. Add your animals to the background and place them where you want them to be at the beginning of your video.
          6. Duplicate that slide, then move the background a bit and remove the animal who isn't talking after the first line. Make the remaining animal fill the screen.
          7. Repeat this process for every line in your script.
  1. You will only have two attempts to hand this in. If your first attempt does not earn a 10/10 you will receive feedback on how to improve it.
  2. This is an IN-CLASS assignment, NOT HOMEWORK. Please stay on task to complete this work by the end of class!
