- Objective:
- Students will gain familiarity with some of the more common expectations of the Media Arts program to better facilitate their success in the 2024-2025 School Year.
- Warm-Up:
- Find the computer that has your name on it and log into your account.
- Mr. Smith can manage password concerns. DO NOT share passwords with other students!
- Warm-Ups are usually a 5 point Independent Work grade if a written response is expected, or a 5 point Assessment grade if the Warm-Up is a quiz. They are due at the start of class and not eligible for late submission or re-submission.
- Find the computer that has your name on it and log into your account.
- Monthly Incentives
- Monthly Media Arts Incentive:
- "Arcade Day" at the end of the month.
- August's Arcade Days are scheduled for 08/29 & 08/30.
- Students remain eligible unless a Notice of Concern has been earned that month for grades or behavior, though a student who missed out from low grades can earn back their Arcade Day privileges if they bring their grade back up.
- Check Canvas - if your avg is 70% or above, you're probably eligible.
- Ineligible students should be working on a project re-submission or their next project.
- Arcade Days do not change project deadlines! All work is still due!
- "Arcade Day" at the end of the month.
- Monthly Media Arts Incentive:
- Computer Setup
- Your assigned lab computers are in a default setup. We will need to fix that.
- Personalization (themes, wallpaper)
- Other Settings (Time display, lock screen, etc.)

- Audio Editing:
- Tenacity
- Image Editing:
- Darktable (Like Adobe Lightroom, but free)
- Inkscape (Like Adobe Illustrator, but free)
- GNU Image Manipulation Program (Like Photoshop, but free)
- Video Editing:

- Openshot
- Shotcut

- Course Syllabus
- Going over this is expected to take the majority of class time.
- Mr. Smith is very sorry about that, but these are things that students need to know.
- Q1 Project deadlines:
- Q1P1: Digital Citizenship 1: Netiquette
- Pre-Production Due Wed, 08-28
- Production Due Fri, 08-30 (Arcade Day)
- Post-Production Due Wed, 09-04
- "Put Out Fires" Day Fri, 09-06 (Project is due today!)
- Critique Day Tue, 09-10
- Q1P2: Digital Citizenship 2: Fact Checking

- Q1P4: Student Choice
- Projects are 100 point Classwork grades, and are not eligible for late submission.
- Feedback from the critiques is provided in the Canvas assignment for that project.
- Projects are eligible for re-submission, but only once. They must be resubmitted using the same form as before, and no later than 10 days after feedback has been shared with them in Canvas. The 4th project of each Quarter is not eligible for re-submission due to its proximity to the end of the Quarter!
- Deadlines for future projects are not adjusted. Students are encouraged to not put off starting Project 4 because they've decided to work on redoing Project 3 from scratch.
- Q1P1: Digital Citizenship 1: Netiquette
- Exit Ticket
- This week's exit ticket will not "go live" today, because how are you going to say what you did all week when it's only Monday?
-
4 pts Proofread your work. 3 pts What did you accomplish in Media Arts this week? 3 pts What did you learn in Media Arts this week? - NOTE: If you do not describe WHAT you did while working on your project, saying you worked on it is not enough information to earn credit.
- Exit Tickets are always 10 point Classwork grades and not eligible for late submission or re-submission. They are due during the last 10 minutes of the last class of the week.
