Media Arts Majors, 05-07-2024

THIS VIDEO GOES OVER TODAY'S EXPECTATIONS! (109 days until the 1st day of next school year!) (Barring additional All Major Days, we will have 15 more classes together this year.)

  1. Warm-Up:
    1. 2024-05-07 Warm-Up: Video Interpretation
      1. Directions: Watch the short video, then answer the questions in the rubric.
    2. Warm-Ups are usually a 5 point Independent Work grade if a written response is expected, or a 5 point Assessment grade if the Warm-Up is a quiz. They are due at the start of class and not eligible for late submission or re-submission.
  2. Monthly Incentives
    1. Monthly Media Arts Incentive:
      1. "Arcade Day" at the end of the month.
        1. May's Arcade Day is scheduled for 05-29-2024.
      2. Students remain eligible unless a Notice of Concern has been earned that month for grades or behavior, though a student who missed out from low grades can earn back their Arcade Day privileges if they bring their grade back up.
        1. Check SchoolMax - if your avg is 70% or above, you're probably eligible.
      3. Ineligible students should be working on a project re-submission or their next project.
  3. Q4 Project deadlines:
    1. Q4P2 (Student Choice): 04-26
      1. Re-Submits Due 05-10!
    2. Q4P3 (Student Choice): 05-10
      1. 05-03: Pre-Production Due
      2. 05-07: Production Due
      3. 05-08: ALL MAJOR DAY (Prep for Band & Orchestra Spring Concert) (Hand in what you have!)
      4. 05-09: Post-Production Due (Hand in what you have!)
      5. 05-09: Band & Orchestra Spring Concert, Majors needed to record evening show (Show up at 6pm, show is from 6:30pm-8:00pm.)
        1. C.M., J.M., and T.J. are confirmed participants, thank you!
        2. Others can still volunteer if their parents reach out to Mr. Smith.
      6. 05-13: Critique Day
    3. Q4P4 (Retrospective): 05-24
      1. Rubric:
        1. 25% Video spends 1-1.5 minutes each showcasing 3 projects submitted by the student for a grade in this course this school year.
          1. No video project may be longer than 5 minutes. If you are adding a title and credits (as you should...), your video will be over 3 minutes long even if doing the bare minimum.
        2. 25% Video includes what the student learned while working on each project being showcased.
          1. (If there is a project where nothing was learned, then a different project should be selected to be showcased.)
        3. 25% Video includes what the student would do differently if attempting a similar project.
          1. (If the answer is "nothing," this is an admission that the student would hand in the same work twice, expecting two grades. Such a statement is not likely to earn credit.)
        4. 25% Citations for all content not owned by the student are included in the credits, including the media name, creator's name (if known), and where the media is from.
          1. (Remember, Pintrest and TikTok don't give permission for reuse elsewhere. Google is a search engine, not a source to be cited.)
      2. 05-15: Piano/Chorus Spring Concert (6:30 PM to 7:45 PM)
      3. 05-16: Pre-Production Due
      4. 05-20: Production Due
      5. 05-22: Post-Production Due
      6. 05-29: Critique Day
      7. 05-30: Elementary Band/Orchestra Spring Concert (6:30 PM to 7:45 PM)
      8. 05-31: Arcade Day
    4. Projects are 100 point Classwork grades, and are not eligible for late submission.
    5. Feedback from the critiques is provided in the Canvas assignment for that project.
    6. Projects are eligible for re-submission, but only once. They must be resubmitted using the same form as before, and no later than 10 days after feedback has been shared with them in Canvas.
    7. Deadlines for future projects are not adjusted. Students are encouraged to not put off starting Project 4 because they've decided to work on redoing Project 3 from scratch.
  4. Exit Ticket
    1. 2024-05-06 to 2024-05-10 Exit Ticket
      1. 4 pts Proofread your work.
3 pts What did you accomplish in Media Arts this week?
3 pts What did you learn in Media Arts this week?
      2. NOTE: If you do not describe WHAT you did while working on your project, saying you worked on it is not enough information to earn credit.
    2. Exit Tickets are always 10 point Classwork grades and not eligible for late submission or re-submission. They are due during the last 10 minutes of the last class of the week.
