Media Arts, 3/31

Warm-Up:

Look at what you handed in yesterday. List what changes you need to make. (If you didn't hand anything in, look at the work you've done and list the changes you need to make. If you say "none" then I'd like to know why you want a zero for not handing it in.)

Agenda:

  1. Series Video  10
    1. Due Friday!
    2. Yes, that's today.
  2. Storyboards
    1. Due today.
    2. You should have already read my comments. If you don't see any comments from me, you should have already handed something in.
    3. Most storyboards I've seen weren't long enough. Stretch them out.
    4. Switch up your camera angles. 30 seconds of long shots doesn't show off a product.
  3. Light Management
    1. Due today.
    2. You should already have read my comments. If you don't see any comments from me, you should have already handed something in.
    3. Rubric:
      1. Student submits 10 black & white self-portraits.
      2. 5 self-portraits show light use helped the composition. (Label them!)
      3. 5 self-portraits show light use hindered the composition. (Label them!)
      4. Images are not edited, except to rotate and/or rename the images.
    4. Good composition:
      1. Important details clearly defined.
      2. Focal point is in focus.
      3. Good use of space (Is there too much negative space?)
    5. Poor composition:
      1. Blurry (Motion blur or camera shake)
      2. Too much empty space.
      3. “Busy” portions distract from the focal point.
      4. Low contrast
    6. Tips
      1. Manually set your ISO, if you can. Lower numbers = darker photos.
      2. Manually adjust your exposure (+/-).
      3. Open Camera for Android is a good, free phone app that allows you to mess with these settings.
      4. If your photos are all blurry, use a tripod.
      5. Setting a timer and propping  helps you avoid “selfie arm.”
      6. Take A LOT more photos than you need, then sort through for the really good (& really bad) ones.
