Pre-Production
Storyboards are a way to create a "visual script" for a video or other media. They can come in many formats and levels of detail. As this is a 1st year assignment, we're keeping things simple.
Brainstorm a list of activities that happen daily in school (Getting lunch, recess, dismissal, etc.), and pick the activity you feel would make the most interesting video. Pick a single activity that can be done in a minute or less. Timing is the most common reason for students not earning an A on this project.
Use any storyboard template to plan out the key events in the activity you have chosen.
Storyboards can be a variety of formats. You can make your own or find a template online. You can even make one by folding a single sheet of paper 4 times!
Your storyboard should include the following parts:
Title
Plot: Beginning
Plot: Middle
Plot: End
Credits
An interesting plot will likely have 5 or more slides, total. Less than that and there won't be much action.
Get your script approved by the Media Arts teacher. They may have advice to make the recording process easier.
Production
Recruit some classmates (if needed) and record your storyboard.
Remember that Canvas' Media Upload tool has a built in video recording feature. As this assignment does not allow edits, this might be the simplest solution.
If you prefer another tool, https://webcamera.io/ is a web based recorder that saves an mp4 file to your downloads folder.
Record at least THREE (3) takes before moving on to postproduction.
Post-Production
Review your three (3) recordings and select the one that you feel best fits the requirements listed in the rubric.
If all of the recordings are missing something vital, or you just feel like you can do better, return to and repeat the production steps.
Upload your best take with a copy of your approved storyboard.
Rubric
25% Evidence of planning (script and/or storyboard) is included with the project.
25% Video has not been edited with the exception of a possible file format change.
25% Video is 30-59 seconds in length, with the following sequence of content: 1. Title 2. Plot: Beginning 3. Plot: Middle 4. Plot: End 5. Credits
25% Citations for all content not owned by the student are included in the credits, including the media name, creator's name (if known), and where the media is from. (Remember, Pintrest and TikTok don't give permission for reuse elsewhere. Google is a search engine, not a citable source.)
