Directions
Pre-Production
The goal of this project is to create music that can be used in future assignments in this course.
This includes your own projects, of course, but ALSO other students' projects, assuming you give permission and they cite you in their credits.
Select a digital tool for creating music.
The exact tool you use is not mandated by this project's rubric, but suggestions include:
SoundTrap (Your Media Arts teacher may have the ability to provide you with a Pro account.)
GarageBand
Citizen DJ (Citations are extremely important for this tool.)
Sonic-Pi (A program that allows you to create music by writing code, where changes to the code change the music while it is being played.)
Any number of step sequencer apps and/or websites.
Prepare as much of your citations as you can in advance.
Remember that copyright theft is against PGCPS policy and this recording is meant to be PUBLISHED. Your selected audio must be used WITH PERMISSION. If you cannot prove you have permission, don't use it.
Production
Play around with your selected software to create a song that is between 2:30 and 5 minutes in length.
Review the rubric to make sure you're following all of the requirements.
Example: The song you're creating needs to be an instrumental, so it would waste a lot of time and energy to include a vocal track in your song and only realize it afterwards.
Once you are comfortable with how the song sounds, play it for one or two students to get their feedback.
Use screen recording software (like WeVideo or OBS Studio) to record yourself playing the song from beginning to end.
This is to show your work. If it is not obvious that you created this song yourself, your grade will reflect that you handed in someone else's work as your own.
Post-Production
Export your edited work as an mp3 file and submit it along with your screen recording and a list of all applicable citations.
Rubric
25% Song is instrumental, with sounds that are repeated throughout the length of the audio file. (They do not need to be continuous, but should exist at least in the beginning, middle, and end.)
25% Song is between 2:30 and 5 minutes total run time (TRT).
25% Song is handed in both as an .MP3 file and a screen recording of the song playing in the software used to make it. (Show your work!)
25% Citations for all content not owned by the student are included in the credits, including the media name, creator's name (if known), and where the media is from. (Remember, Pintrest and TikTok don't give permission for reuse elsewhere. Google is a search engine, not a citable source.)
