This project may be completed by the following students:

M1 1st Year Media Arts Majors.

M2 2nd Year Media Arts Majors.

M3 3rd Year Media Arts Majors.

TC Technology Concepts Students.

Directions

  1. Pre-Production

    1. The goal of this project is to create music that can be used in future assignments in this course.
      1. This includes your own projects, of course, but ALSO other students' projects, assuming you give permission and they cite you in their credits.
    2. Select a digital tool for creating music.
      1. The exact tool you use is not mandated by this project's rubric, but suggestions include:
        1. SoundTrap (Your Media Arts teacher may have the ability to provide you with a Pro account.)
        2. GarageBand
        3. Citizen DJ (Citations are extremely important for this tool.)
        4. Sonic-Pi (A program that allows you to create music by writing code, where changes to the code change the music while it is being played.)
        5. Any number of step sequencer apps and/or websites.
    3. Prepare as much of your citations as you can in advance.
      1. Remember that copyright theft is against PGCPS policy and this recording is meant to be PUBLISHED. Your selected audio must be used WITH PERMISSION. If you cannot prove you have permission, don't use it.
  2. Production

      1. Play around with your selected software to create a song that is between 2:30 and 5 minutes in length.
      2. Review the rubric to make sure you're following all of the requirements.
        1. Example: The song you're creating needs to be an instrumental, so it would waste a lot of time and energy to include a vocal track in your song and only realize it afterwards.
      3. Once you are comfortable with how the song sounds, play it for one or two students to get their feedback.
      4. Use screen recording software (like WeVideo or OBS Studio) to record yourself playing the song from beginning to end.
        1. This is to show your work. If it is not obvious that you created this song yourself, your grade will reflect that you handed in someone else's work as your own.
  3. Post-Production

    1. Export your edited work as an mp3 file and submit it along with your screen recording and a list of all applicable citations.
