Project - Media Arts Commercial

This project may be completed by the following students:

M3 3rd Year Media Arts Majors.

Directions

  1. Pre-Production

    1. We occasionally need a way of promoting the Foulois Media Arts program to others, including parents, teachers at other buildings, 5th grade students, and others.
    2. Begin by brainstorming a list of the coolest things Media Arts majors get to do. This will give you an idea of what you should be showcasing in your commercial.
    3. Write out a script that covers as many things from your list as possible.
      1. You CAN include a short interview, but MOST of your commercial should be scripted!
    4. Start collecting the works you will be showcasing.
      1. This can be stuff you've made yourself, but reconsider if it's something that earned a low grade.
      2. This can be stuff made by other majors, but make sure you have permission to use it and that you give that student credit in your credits.
  2. Production

    1. Record as much video as you can.
      • When recording in the classroom, make sure to ask for the best equipment for the job. We have a teleprompter and some nice mics and cameras. Make use of them.
      • Do not devote time to sorting/deleting video until you've gotten through the whole script.
      • It is suggested that you record plenty of "B-Roll" shots, but go for variety. Remember that b-roll is not "bloopers." Any b-roll should be showing cool things happening, not showcasing mistakes.
  3. Post-Production

    1. Review your videos.
      1. Remove any clips that did not turn out well.
      2. If you have several near-identical clips, select the best one. (example: You likely do not need 5 clips looking over the shoulder of someone editing video.
      3. Move all of your remaining clips to your PGCPS Google Drive account to make sure nothing happens to them.
    2. Edit the clips with usable audio together first. You may end up with more "talking heads" shots in a row than you want, but you'll be fixing that with the next step.
    3. Add tracks above your current content to add the b-roll of student work and students working, but make sure that all of the b-roll you add relates to what we're hearing in your script.
    4. It is strongly suggested that you do not include any content unless it was made by a Media Arts major, no matter how cool you think it is. We're not showcasing our abilty to find stock images, we're showcasing what we make here.
    5. Double-check the rubric and submit your finished presentation for a grade.
